Breanna Ahrens

Sustainability Staff

Bio

I am a Senior majoring in Environment, Sustainability, and Geography with a minor in German Studies. I grew up in Otsego, Minnesota which is north of the Twin Cities. I spent a lot of my childhood outside. During this time I saw a lot of the natural environment and farmlands around me become polluted due to urbanization in the area, so even from a young age I wanted to work towards protecting the environment.

During my time here at UMD I’ve fallen in love with learning about different cultures and how that affects a society's view on sustainability. I’ve worked on numerous projects in my classes that focused on community perspectives on sustainability, urban development, and transportation. On top of that I also have an interest in getting involved in the community, both on campus and in Duluth. In the Office of Sustainability I work in the Free Store as well as work on sustainability projects around campus.
